Elaina Moon will be in residence at St. Oswald’s Church in Grasmere on the 14th and 21st of February to read her latest book ‘Little Robin and the Delicious Gingerbread’.
It was inspired by annual winter visits to The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop when she always spotted a robin outside.
“I have always loved reading out loud to children. It is such a powerful way of firing their imaginations and instilling in them a love for words,” said former primary school teacher Elaina.
In addition to ‘Little Robin’, the book has three cute flower characters called Jasmine, Viola and Pansy.
Joanne Hunter, co-director of Grasmere Gingerbread®, was delighted when Elaina sent her a copy.
“For decades we have had a robin visiting the back of the shop and cheering us up with its beautiful song,” she said, confirming the author’s ornithological observation.
For many years, the robin - voted Britain’s national bird in the 1960s - has featured on a Grasmere Gingerbread® Christmas card which depicts Joanne’s baker husband Andrew as a jolly rotund figure.
“It is still one of our most popular cards although Andrew has been on a diet since then,” added Joanne.
Elaina will be hosting her FREE storytelling sessions at 11am and 3pm on Tuesday 14th February and Tuesday 21st February inside St. Oswald’s Church which is next door to The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.
Children of all ages are welcome although specifically those aged up to seven years old. At the end of each session they will be given a FREE Grasmere Gingerbread® flower.
