A BOOK called ‘Amelia and her Time Travelling Trainers’ which celebrates the 170th anniversary of Grasmere Gingerbread® is being launched in Grasmere with four FREE storytelling sessions for children during the October half-term holiday.

Author Elaina Moon will be reading her new story inside St Oswald’s Church on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th of October at 11am and 3pm on both days.

“It is about a little girl called Amelia who uses her time travelling trainers to have adventures,” said Elaina, a former primary school teacher.

“In this particular tale, she goes all the way back to 1854 to meet Sarah Nelson who invented Grasmere Gingerbread® inside her Church Cottage home in Grasmere which is now The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop.”

An earlier book entitled ‘Little Robin and the Delicious Gingerbread’ also featured the popular Lake District visitor attraction.

“The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is such a rich source of inspiration for me,” explained former teacher Elaina who has been visiting the Lake District for many years.

Children’s author Elaina Moon loves Grasmere Gingerbread®

“There is something magical about the little building and tiny shop inside and the spicy-sweet aroma of gingerbread hanging on the air always fires up my imagination.”

Joanne Hunter, co-director of the historic bakery was thrilled when Elaina came up with the idea for the fully illustrated book which is aimed at children aged up to 7.

“Children love visiting The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop and Elaina’s story brings Sarah Nelson to life in such a lovely way,” she said.

“Timeslip stories such as Tom’s Midnight Garden have always been popular with children and I am sure Elaina’s new book will encourage youngsters to think about history and the past.”
